At Mobile Outfitters we offer a memorable Moose Hunting experience in Western Newfoundand! The best dates for hunting moose are the last week of September to the end of the third week of October. We also do a late hunt in the second and third week of November which is quite successful.
The species of moose found in Newfoundland is known as the Eastern Canadian Moose; on our island they are more plentiful than any other place in North America (100,000+) and yield an average antler spread in the 35-45 inch range. Mature bulls range from 1,100 – 1,200 pounds with some approaching the 1,400-pound range. Adult cows average approximately 800-900 pounds.
Main Lodge Hunt
The main lodge is located on a large lake surrounded by meadows, bogs, stream mouths and open beaches. Hunts are by walking from the lodge and by boat to favoured locations around the lake. This location has all the amenities (indoor plumbing, electricity and cell phone/internet connection). Moose, caribou and spring/ fall bear are hunted at this location.
Out Camp Hunt
Located in an isolated river valley this location is suited to the more adventurous hunter or the hunter in search of a once in a lifetime trophy. Hunting is along both sides of the river, between the alder beds and in the open meadows back to the hillsides. A comfortable tent camp on platforms where the hunter will be warm and dry in all weather. Moose and caribou are hunted at this location.
This hunt is conducted along the main river in safe freighter canoes. We usually use this camp if we have clients with health issues which restrict their mobility. You can usually harvest your animal right from the canoe. Moose and caribou are hunted at this location.
